Slashed Seat Affair at Aylesbury Festival
I could throw so many cliches and superlatives at this band that it would become inappropriate so I won’t go on about how they work up Buckinghamshire with their performance, nor will I talk about how like real Pros they went on stage and gave it their all even though the lead singer Ellie had little rest after a previous day of rehearsal and gigging until the wee hours. And one thing I won’t ever mention is how throughout the day they behaved like rock stars, swearing, poking, sticking up fingers and even bending over! Oh yes, I love these guys, but you won’t hear me bang on and on about them!

When I look at this photo (above) I always remember how they relaxed into their positions. No drama, just poses! They are a constant reminder of why I enjoy Gig Photography so much, it’s because basically musicians are a bunch of posers and I LOVE them for that.

As well as being a really down to earth girl, Ellie is also gifted in the art of No B.S. I can relate to someone like that who just cuts through the crap and gets on with it. She had a tired throat from over rehearsal and gigging, but instead of complaining she got on with the job at hand!

I could photograph Noel (above) forever! He’s got the “I DON’T GIVE A S**T” look that hard rockers should have. He has a lush guitar which I don’t know the name of. To me it would be a piece of wood but in the hands of Noel it’s a screaming Axe! Noel is a legend in my books because he always photographs well because he absolutely loves the camera!!

I believe a band without a decent drummer might as well be a string quartet; not that there is anything wrong with being in a quartet but that’s just not rock and roll! Rob gives a strong performance every time I see him, but what strikes me the most is just how level headed he is. That and the fact is rhythm is perfect, Rob is the backbone of SSA’s stage performances.

And finally there’s Slashed Seat Affair’s big brother. Darren knows that every time I point the lens at him, he knows he has to put on a good show and he’s never let me down. I have photographed Bass players who are talented but have zero stage presence which is very disappointing to a photographer who is looking for the ART in his subjects, more so in the case of performing musicians. Most performers can learn alot from Darren.
