What happens when you get 5 opinionated Aussie rockers in a small arena? What happens when those Aussies unleash their breed of head thumping, chord slamming anthems on a hot, wild and enthusiastic London crowd?

JET are raw true Aussies, they speak their mind and make no pretence their sound is honest without trying to be clever. Like all great bands their songs are accessible to those who have never heard them before; just think of all the Beatles and Oasis songs, their anthems are very simple to construct!

On this night, JET opened with “Get What You Need”, in their anticipation the fans raised their hands up as if to worship the lads from down under. And so it was throughout the evening in North London; through the Cester brothers Nic (lead vocals) and Chris (drums) full commited to their craft. Through the lights and the dry ice, they stirred the front pit into a frenzy. Yours truly was right up the front giving it all with the best of them. Everyone up front was intense as if were feeding time to a pack of wild dogs. They were hungry for everything JET could through at them.

This leads me to their killer song, “Are you gonna be my Girl?”. Like the Holy Grail, Chris raised his Tamborine to the crowd, in turn we worshiped that tamborine as it were the Massiah himself. With well rehearsed showmanship, Chris rattled that tambo. He knew exactly what he was doing pumping up the fans; he said something but it was drowned by the hysteria. Then came in that familiar bassline, another hook for the audience to be trapped on, and another level of frenzy. Finally a scream and the drums kick in…Volume 11 had been reached and a wall of white noise hit me. Such was the intensity of the scream that I had to move into the lions den and jump up and down like a madman. It was the obvious move to make.

I am sure you can tell this is not a neutral review. I went to see JET perform as a fan, not as a photographer (that may come at another time). For now I had an amazing night with a bunch of Aussies, a very opinionated Kiwi and in the middle of all that was some **** who tried to take my iPhone right out of my jean pockets, screw you man, whoever you are.

THAT is not a good way to end this review so I’ll leave you with this. I don’t believe JET are a one hit wonder. Their third album contains commercial hits, all those songs need is for it to be picked up by a radio station and played until people’s ears bleed. After a few years in the backseat, JET are most definately back in front.
