JET at the HMV Forum, London.

What happens when you get 5 opinionated Aussie rockers in a small arena? What happens when those Aussies unleash their breed of head thumping, chord slamming anthems on a hot, wild and enthusiastic London crowd?
JET are raw true Aussies, they speak their mind and make no pretence their sound is honest without trying to be clever. Like all great bands their songs are accessible to those who have never heard them before; just think of all the Beatles and Oasis songs, their anthems are very simple to construct!
On this night, …

How a Magazine Cover is made from start to finish. MacWorld.

This is technically not Events photography, but it is an aspect of Photography and Design I really enjoy. I come from 15+ years in the Graphic Design industry working for large multinationals and big name brands so even though I have moved into Photography there is still Design blood running through my veins.
I happen to stumble upon this video of the Macworld’s magazine being produced from start to finish. It’s a time lapse illustration to show the huge amount of work required to do this.
Have a look and enjoy!

Michael Jackon. Every pose is made to be photographed.

He has been covered countless times and GigPhotographer is sure he will be spoken of for many years to come. He is compared to other icons of the past like Elvis, James Dean and Frank Sinatra. However, what makes THIS icon so relevant is because he is (or was) a living icon of THIS generation.
Perhaps he lost his brightness along the way, but a star that burns so bright will burn out. It was in his light that we shall remember him and I thought it was about time GigPhotographer …

Netball, it’s not just a game, it’s a sport!

A few months ago, I was asked to photograph the local Netball playoffs at the Stoke Mandeville Guttman’s sports center, Aylesbury. Up until that point, I had never considered Netball a game I would enjoy watching, but there is a lot of skill, strength and speed involved.
Photographing sports delivers new challenges which I relish. I had to anticipate where the best action might be; it is a lot of trial and error but I soon learnt where to position the lens.
It was great fun. Many thanks to Sam for arranging …

The AnyDays at Runway Festival

I had one of those tingling feelings when Adrienne from Runway Studios invited me to her Runway Festival last Saturday. It was like my Spidey Sense was preparing me a great experience. I am not entirely certain, but I think the tingling was about a band called The Anydays.
When they took the stage, I wasn’t sure what to make of them. It wasn’t until they burst into their song “I Feel Free” that they really caught my attention. With their catchy 60′s retro riffs and the nods to The Who …

Runway Festival.

i was privileged enough to be invited to the birth of a new event The Runway Festival just outside of Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire. It was organized by Adrienne Aiken who owns and runs Runway Studios based out in an old disused RAF airbase. The setting truly is spectacular so I could easily see the potential of this festival growing and growing.
More photos, videos and interviews to follow soon!

U2, Joshua Tree. Classic Album Cover Review

Very often I get asked for ideas on location and styles for an unsigned bands album photos. I tell them, what bands inspires them because that is always a good place to start. In my first review of classic album covers I wanted to start with a BIG classic; U2′s Joshua Tree.

There are thousands of reviews about the songs on the album, so I am not here to debate why this is a classic and nor do I intend to review the songs themselves. The purpose is to tie it …

Lost Minute’s performance at Aylesbury.

No joke, sometimes you hear something that makes you pause and take notice, in the white noise of music there is a song and voice that you love instantly. It’s like finding out that person who you’ve been close friends with is more than just a friend and you just want more and more of her.

That’s how I feel about Decisions by Lost Minute. I first heard it at the Aylesbury Festival back in mid July. I found out they were playing in Aylesbury performing a short acoustic set, I …

Inspirations: A tribute to the unsigned bands out there.

OK, for those who are of a sensitive nature don’t read the next bit and skip to the 3rd paragraph.
I FUCKING LOVE MUSIC PHOTOGRAPHY!!!!!
Ok, I do apologize. I have been sitting in front of this Macbook trying to find a sentence that encapsulates my feelings for what I do. It’s not very Christian, but it’s definitely rock and roll. I have already photographed a living legend, it was a moment I’ll never forget. My problem was, back then I did not fully appreciate the opportunity. A year and …
