Jazz Juice recording & photo session.

Life is funny isn’ t it? You can meet someone through someone else and then become good friends and the then business partners. That is the case with Gary Mullins. A universal “solid bloke” and amazing guitar player.
Today, I had the pleasure of photographing his band Jazz Juice during a recording session at Southcourt Studios. It was also THE perfect opportunity to do some portrait shots of him and his band. The actual photos will come soon, but in the meantime, here’s a little teaser…

The Trainer. Filmed entirely on a digital SLR. Canon 5D Mark 2

I’m researching my next digital SLR camera, the big difference this time is I am strongly consider the Canon range and not the Nikon’s I am familiar with. Even since I was a young lad I wanted to be a film maker, I wanted to tell a story. My career has reflected this; starting as a 3D Animator, to storyboard artist, to graphic artist to photographer.
This little documentary embodies everything I love about film making; telling a small and intimate story using very simple cinematography and editing. Watch it all, …

Hitler rants about the Nikon D3x.

Now, never in my lifetime have I ever condoned anything Hitler has said, but in this video I totally agree!! And yes, I know it’s a spoof! I can tell because clearly he’s not heard of the D3s! LOL
Seriously though, Nikon have BETTER get their act together. A few years ago it was about low light, high ISO and low noise. But the goal posts have shifted massively. Canon have been leading this race and I DO NOT want to be left behind. So once again Nikon, sort out your …

Jet, Shaka Rock Album Cover Review

One of Australia’s greatest exports, along with Rolf Harris, are fighting hard. They have seemingly been overshadowed by newer bands. Let’s be honest, the music scene has never been this crowded. However in the darkness that is over-marketed rubbish that has been dumped in the UK charts, JET come up with a instant rock pleasing anthemic album. Shaka Rock is pure hard riffed contemporary rock. I can imagine most of the tracks being a soundtrack to a hip Hollywood film!
However, I’m not here to discuss the contents, as a Gig …

It’s no secret that I love video as as medium. As a young boy I wanted to be a film maker, but my parents told me to be something “better” instead like a Doctor or Accountant(?).
Anyway, I stumbled upon this video; a film maker asked Londoners one simple question. It is no so much the people’s answers that grab me, it is the editing and composition that melts me. This is why film interests me.

GigPhotographer.com is iPhone compatible.

I’ve had an Apple iPhone for quite some time now. I looked at alternatives but being a huge apple fan (got the desktop, the laptop and literally have the t-shirt), I was drawn to the little wonder.
I then looked at the stats of traffic hitting gigphotographer and recognized a growing trend of smart phone users. As things were, the layout of this site was not Apple iPhone friendly. But with the help of a little wordpress plugin I can proudly say GigPhotographer.com is now formatted to be viewable and usable …

Advice for wannabe and starting photographers

What does it mean to be a Professional Photographer?
This post is not about going to talk about how to be a Photographer; I’m sure you will know your F-Stops from your ISO levels. This is a short article about becoming being a paid Professional Photographer.
I receive email from students and folks from all walks of life asking to join me at a gig or Wedding. Unfortunately I have to turn all of them down (but I never ignore them, that’s just rude). I tell them there is one massive difference …

How a Magazine Cover is made from start to finish. MacWorld.

This is technically not Events photography, but it is an aspect of Photography and Design I really enjoy. I come from 15+ years in the Graphic Design industry working for large multinationals and big name brands so even though I have moved into Photography there is still Design blood running through my veins.
I happen to stumble upon this video of the Macworld’s magazine being produced from start to finish. It’s a time lapse illustration to show the huge amount of work required to do this.
Have a look and enjoy!
