Lost Minute performance at Kingsbury, Aylesbury.

Even though the clouds and rain could not dampen the the Lost Minute lads, Adam, Danny and Sandy. I popped by to show my support and took a few shots while I was there with a combination of my trusty 24-70mm and awesome 50mm Nikon lenses.

Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror Cover version

I was in the mood for some MJ, but rather than listen to his original Man in the Mirror I wanted to see what the talented world out there can do. After a very quick search on YouTube I found this guy called Gabe Bondoc. He’s very talented. His treatment of a classic is done with tenderness and respectfully.
Click the video, have a listen and comment below. What do you think? Do you hate it? Do you even prefer it the MJ’s classic?

These are Gabe’s details.

The Red Bullets at the PictureDrome, Northampton.

The Picturedrome is a classic venue that heralds it’s greatest glory days back in the 60s. From the front it’s unasuming but it’s when you enter and get to the back to the main hall is where it’s splendor comes into sight. The high ceiling, art deco lights and a bar that stretches all the way across is wonderful, and a great setting to hold a music gig.
I have already said so much about the Red Bullets so I won’t say much except they are getting better and better as …

Jazz…the smoothest kind of smooth.

Gigphotographer was lucky enough to spend a day with jazz musicians. Yes I did have a dozen things to do, but because things have been very hectic lately I made a deliberate effort to slow my life down. And with that I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon with Jazz Juice. Five very talented musicians who just know how to melt those notes on the page. Five instruments that are as individual as they are united in create a free flowing rainbow of sound.
Other musical genres set out to make a …

Jazz Juice. A Wedding and Function Music Band

I’m still working through alot of photos, not just the ones from the weekend, a fair few wedding photos too! However I did very quickly tinker with this group photo of Jazz Juice who are an events function band based in Aylesbury. We had a very (and I mean very) limited time to do the photoshoot, but I think I managed to pull it off. Nothing like a bit of pressure to get the heart pumping!
More photos to come, I have to get back to editing some Wedding Photos now.

Jazz Juice recording & photo session.

Life is funny isn’ t it? You can meet someone through someone else and then become good friends and the then business partners. That is the case with Gary Mullins. A universal “solid bloke” and amazing guitar player.
Today, I had the pleasure of photographing his band Jazz Juice during a recording session at Southcourt Studios. It was also THE perfect opportunity to do some portrait shots of him and his band. The actual photos will come soon, but in the meantime, here’s a little teaser…

Photographing music gigs with Pocket Wizards

Last night was my first opportunity to shoot with my new Pocket Wizards and boy did I learn alot. Placement, aperture and power had to be adjusted, but because I had limited setup time on the stage I was not satisfied with the setup. I’ve been going through the shots in Adobe Lightroom, and there are a few I liked. More photos to come soon.

The Bad Cats. A Wedding/Cover band.

While I was photographing a wedding in Wales I happend across the band called the Bad Cats. They are a talented bunch of lads from Manchester. Even though I was photographing a Wedding, I spared a few minutes to capture the band playing, after all, what kind of Gig Photographer would I be if I didn’t take a few shots?
I wouldn’t normally post cover bands (NBS is the only other exception), but I thought why not! It’s the last band I’ll shoot in 2009 and it has been a damn …

The Trainer. Filmed entirely on a digital SLR. Canon 5D Mark 2

I’m researching my next digital SLR camera, the big difference this time is I am strongly consider the Canon range and not the Nikon’s I am familiar with. Even since I was a young lad I wanted to be a film maker, I wanted to tell a story. My career has reflected this; starting as a 3D Animator, to storyboard artist, to graphic artist to photographer.
This little documentary embodies everything I love about film making; telling a small and intimate story using very simple cinematography and editing. Watch it all, …

Robbie Williams. Reality Killed the Video Star album cover

I used to be a huge fan of Robbie Williams until the pressures of stardom took a hold and he lost direction in himself and in his music. There is alot riding on his “come back” album Reality Killed the Video Star. I’m not going to review the songs, but I did want to point out the cover. It’s a got all the hallmarks of a professionally done album; abstract, subtlety and the retro look I really love. The over exposed gold hue and the classic bike gives it that …
