The Red Bullets at Thornborough Manor

This weekend has been nuts. I am already knee deep in photos that I need to sort through and check but I could not miss an opportunity to photograph Aylesbury Festival! Those photos will come later; I literally have very little time (I’m allowing myself a 10 minute break to do this blog), but I digress.
It so happens at the Aylesbury Festival the Red Bullets were doing a set there. During one of our conversations, Peter Edwards who is the lead singer said I should go to the Thornborough Manor …

Tramp Etiquette at the Aylesbury Festival 2009

It is difficult to explain to almost everyone I talk to why I do Gig Photography when I say to them there is no money in this for me when photographing small, local, unsigned bands. I know all start up bands struggle financial because they sacrifice most of what they have to get notice, but more importantly be noticed by the right person.
I devote part of my time to Gig Photography because it is damn good fun. It isn’t about money, not at this stage anyway. At Aylesbury festival I …

MK4U Photos

MK4U over the weekend was pretty cool; what it lacked in atmosphere and attendance, it made of for in the spirit of live music. And for that I wanted to share with you photos of the crowd and other acts from Sunday’s festival. If you recognize yourself, then pleae leave a comment! I’d like to hear from you!!!

Lightbox Press shots

During our time at Waddesdon Manor, we thought would should capitalize on our location by taking a few shots for press releases. We were running out of time but we got some interesting shots. These photos are un-edited.

Twenty Twenty at MK4U, Milton Keynes

The one great thing about going to smaller festivals is you get to see unsigned bands. The talent out there is amazing; one of the outstanding acts was a “Pop-Rock” band called Twenty Twenty. These three lads gave a lot in there performance and it was  a high benchmark for the following acts to .. erm.. follow!
I would say their target audience would be teenage girls, so although this Photographer doesn’t fit their market, I can still enjoy an enthusiastic performance. Ultimately the music industry is looking for bands that …

Kelly and I weren’t going to see The Red Bullets last night as we both had something just as important to attend. After the evening’s event we both went home. Much to my surprise she rings me thirty minutes later and this was the entire conversation:
“Hello?”
“Be spontaneous!”
“OK”
“Go to the Slug”
“Now?
“Yes!!”
“OK”
As you can see, Shakespeare couldn’t write anything better than that!
I picked her up. We arrived at the Slug just as they were playing Duffy’s Mercy. I went straight to the bar, Kelly went straight to the Bullets! I had forgotten …

I love my job! One of the best things about it is capaturing moments on stage, but one thing I am beginning to appreciate are the crowd. They are some of the most expressive faces I could shoot; they are entirely in the ‘zone’. The artist which they adore is playing on stage so their instinctive reaction is to smile, whoop, cheer and scream!
At my next gig (tomorrow) I’ll be getting more of the crowd, and here’s my message to the crowd and fans, when you see a photographer point …

I have loads more photos of Mr Daltrey but I wanted just to give you a sneak peek of what is to come. I will say this though, he is the first legend I have had the pleasure to meet and shake his hand. A real gentleman. He was swarmed by fans backstage (which I was fortunate to have access to) and constantly remained professional.
I’m not someone who is a celebrity hound, I detest reality shows and talentless fame but without a doubt Mr Daltrey is a great example of …
