Photographing music gigs with Pocket Wizards

Last night was my first opportunity to shoot with my new Pocket Wizards and boy did I learn alot. Placement, aperture and power had to be adjusted, but because I had limited setup time on the stage I was not satisfied with the setup. I’ve been going through the shots in Adobe Lightroom, and there are a few I liked. More photos to come soon.

Nikon 14-24mm F/2.8

Update: new photos of the recent snowfall taking with this amazing wide angle lens. Click here to see it!
Forgive my indulgence, I wanted to write a quick post about my latest lens, the stunning Nikon 14-24mm F/2.8 ultra wide bad boy.
Even though I have had this amazing lens for some time now, I have not had the opportunity to use it as a proper gig. It has come out with me on a few weddings but even then I trust my Go-To lens more which is the Nikon 24-70 F2/8.  …

Just a teaser. I was privileged to photograph the final Netball tournament in Stoke Mandeville this evening. For me it was a gruelling 3 hours of rushing around for the best angles while trying not to get in the referee’s way. All the girls played with passion and sportsmanship. Towards the end of the evening one poor girl really busted up her ankle which swelled up to the size of of an Orange!
More photos to come soon, but as usual I am sensitive to the fact some people may not …

Over the summer I’ve shot well over 30 bands in various venues. Over that time I felt the need to invest in new equipment, in this case a very specific lens. Previously I’ve been shooting with a 70-200mm F2.8 that has been great for 50% of general shots, but because I’ve been moving into gig photography I need a wider lens that allows me to get right to the front, but also give a broader scope in my photos; hence my purchase of the excellent Nikon 24-70 F2.8. I strongly …

Todd continues to be an amazing inspiration to me. His photography has an amazing dynamic that I can only wish for! If I become only half as talented as that man, then I’ll be ecstatic! You can see more of these amazing shots at Slipknot @ Mayhem Fest | ishootshows.com: Concert Photography

The weather last night here in Aylesbury was terrible and set the tone for the beginning of the evening; gray, low and there was a weight over the town but that all changed when the band Micawber came on. It was whispered boldly that this was to be their last ever performance together; what a crime! They really lifted the place and trust me when I say the place really needed lifting; the gathering was huddled under 2 make shift tents, the rain was not heavy but it was relentless …

Every photographer loves the gear he/she uses, for me I covet Nikon’s Flagship camera the D3, so whenever someone posts a review about this camera I read it, bookmark it and in this case I link it to you folks.
I have a D300 and it is a very fine camera with a amazing performance but recently I have been shooting in low light situations where a flash is not always welcome; to compensate for the low light you to adjust 3 factors; the shutter speed, the aperture and the ISO …
