Phew, it’s been hectic. Sooo much to do this week but I finally edited the last band. They’re called Bridgefield, a 5 piece band with a firey lead vocals and a dynamic bass player. He was just so much fun to shoot because he really looked like he was enjoying and giving me a lot of movement to frame through the lens.
I took quite a few shots since it was coming towards the end of the evening, so I took my Nikon off RAW (I know, shocking huh) so I …

Choosing Lenses for Concert Photography | ishootshows.com: Concert Photography
Todd is a photographer i have alot of respect for. I frequently visit his blog to look at what he’s been shooting. He has posted an article about the lenses he recommends when shooting musicians. You should really have a look if you are serious about photography; it’s not for the faint hearted though, the lenses are often more expensive than the camera body.
Photographing live acts is something I am very passionate about; there is something very engaging when I see performers …

I’m really looking forward to this Saturday. I’ll be down the King’s Head again to photograph a band I discovered through my photography. They’re called Slashed Seat Affair which is a wonderfully trippy name! They look like they’re going places big with national airplay as well as working with the same producer who’s credit includes Snow Patrol, Velvet Revolver (who are ex Guns and Roses members), Seal and the Darkness.
I’ve included a video of one of their gigs below. Play it, it’s a great sound.
I will be posting my shots …

The second act was something I wasn’t prepared for. I’ll admit I have not been to many local music sessions so the soft Lisa Thuenissen was something I was expecting. When The Swamis came out they were loud, fast, powerful and made me stop and go “YEEEEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
Absolutely commited rock. As well as the sound I was very impressed with their pressence and performance; for such a small venue they really rocked it out; the crowd was immediately behind them. Now remember Aylesbury is just know for it’s Ducks so three …

It was the weekender at a local pub, I couldn’t attend on Saturday beacause of conflicting photo assignments, but I am so glad I went last night. I saw 3 acts, Lisa was the first one I caught. She played a great set and was always natural infront of the camera. That’s the wonderful thing about bands, they’re always prepared to be photographed and don’t mind you taking shots.
Lisa and the band played to a receptive crowd, there was quite a buzz with many people enjoying the music.

I went to a local gig over the weekend. Technically it was a difficult shoot because it was mostly outside and there was only one source of light which was totally inadequate. However, it was a great lesson in light management. I had to find ways to bounce the flash even though I was outside, OR try to shoot without the flash but rely on my Nikon and my lenses. Here are my results.
